Colonies of Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, strain CCUG 12,837, grown on an plate with horse blood and Staphylococcus aureus, strain CCUG 4151, streaked in the form of a cross on a carpet of the target bacteria to establish the dependence of the V-factor ("satellitism"). The plate was incubated for 24 h at 37°C and photographed with lighting from above. Note the "satellitism", which means that the best growth is obtained close to the streaks of S. aureus.
