New names of taxa within the classification category phylum

During October 2021, an article was published by A. Oren och G.M. Garrity, in which new names are proposed for a number of taxa within the classification category phylum. This has resulted in many discussions in social media about whether it was really necessary to make these changes, which have created confusion among microbiologists and other professionals who come into contact with bacteriology.

This database contains information about 277 species (and subspecies) of importance in veterinary bacterio­logy. These species belong to 100 genera and you can click on Genus to select a genus from the alpha­betical list. You can also use the search facility on the left. Enter just a few letters from the word/name you are looking for; there is no need to enter a complete word.

You can click on an arbitrary taxonomic level (Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus) on the blue bar to view the groups that are included in VetBact and you can then click on a specific category. For example, if you first clicked on "Order", you can then click on a specific order such as Spirochaetales to list the categories at the level below, in this case families.
